Co-founded in 1956 by Peter A. Bordes, Greater Media is considered one of the premiere family-owned broadcasting companies in the United States. It is the parent company of 23 AM and FM radio stations in the Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, New Jersey and Philadelphia markets. In addition, Greater Media owns a group of weekly newspapers in central New Jersey, and several telecommunications towers throughout the United States.
Golden Mike honors will be presented to members of the Bordes family and Smyth, who joined Greater Media in 1986 as General Manager of WMJX-FM in Boston, and was appointed Vice President/General Manager the following year. He was subsequently promoted to the positions of Senior Vice President/Regional General Manager, Group Vice President of Radio, and Chief Operating Officer.
In October 2000, Smyth was named President and Chief Operating Officer, and in March 2002, was promoted to Greater Media's President and Chief Executive Officer. He was named Chairman of the Board in October 2008.
"It is an honor and privilege to recognize such an outstanding broadcasting family for their tireless commitment and dedication to the radio industry," said Lombardo. "Peter Smyth and the Bordes family are shining examples of what makes radio such a great medium to be a part of."
The Broadcasters Foundation of America is national public charity that provides financial assistance for radio and television broadcasters who are in acute need.
