Striped Marlin – Galapagos
Peter Bordes - Striped Marlin
Angler Peter Bordes hooks a monster striped marlin while fishing in the Galapagos and he muscles the fish to the boat for a quick release. Also aboard are Pete Santini (on the bridge), Jackson Parmenter (fellow angler in the cockpit), and Capt Andy LoCascio (behind the camera) in February 2010. Learn more at World Explorer Notebook.
This was one of the hottest bites in the last several years. The killer lure was big 10 1/2″ Iland Express in either black/red (seen in this video) or in blue/pink. It was often fished with a big ballyhoo rigged behind it but was also quite effective without it.
Capt Andy LoCascio – “I have used Iland lures in various sizes and colors on the US East coast for many years. They are deadly for yellowfin and bluefin tuna, but we only started using them in the Galapagos the last couple of seasons. Pete Santini is a master at figuring out the best way to use these in the spread. We had very calm conditions and it was critical we used the right lure head to provide a better target for the marlin.”
