On March 5th, three great bands will combine forces to help a great cause. With the generous support of MediaTrust, interactive ad industry musicians (yes, we have passions outside of CPMs) will take the stage in a Rock ‘n Roll Benefit Show to raise funds for the Tom Deierlein Foundation at New York’s famous Arlene’s Grocery.

Please join us for this special night of music new and familiar, starting at 7 pm SHARP, on 95 Stanton (bet. Orchard and Ludlow).

DOORS OPEN at 5 pm, as does the bar.

Admission is only $8. Proceeds will go to support children and families in dire need.

THE TD FOUNDATION
This foundation was started after Tom Deierlein, a West Point graduate, was activated in late 2005 to active duty military service after 12 years in the inactive reserves. While deployed as a Civil Affairs Officer focused on reconstruction, he reviewed the terrible conditions in Sadr City - a slum of 2.3 million people in East Baghdad, Iraq. The goal was to help children affected in war-torn East Baghdad with basic life needs from shoes and clothes to school supplies and vitamins. After Tom was seriously shot in September of 2006, advertising executives Sean Finnegan, Bill Flately and Paul Bremer took the lead and started the Foundation with a fundraising kick-off event at the Forbes Gallery in NYC in November 2006. Now that Tom is recovered and back in New York, the important works continues and grows. These innocent children are in desperate need of life's most basic necessities. This is a grassroots organization. All participants in this fund are volunteers, 100% of donated funds will go to those children and families in need.

NewTeeVee has learned that video platform startup Ooyala will soon power video portal Joost. Representatives for the two companies confirmed that Ooyala would be providing its technology for Joost, but declined to offer further details until they are formally announced. For now, it was made public today that Joost CEO Mike Volpi joined the Ooyala board of advisors.

Steven Abraham, who leads IBM’s global business services in media and entertainment, joined the Ooyala advisory board as well. And Ooyala said that relationship will also include providing video services to IBM, though we don’t yet know to what extent.

The tie-up with Ooyala is a good move for Joost, whose technology has had hiccups throughout its many generations and revamps, from P2P app to plug-in to Flash video site. But it begs the question of what exactly Joost’s strength is, given that its content collection is not especially distinctive.

Joost content providers include Warner Bros. and investors CBS and Viacom and it also has extensive music video and anime collections. One advantage over competitors such as Hulu is that quite a bit of Joost’s content is available outside of the United States.

Ooyala looks great on the PC, and has some interesting clickable advertising and analytics technology, but unlike some of the white-label video competition it doesn’t offer full-fledged mobile or TV extensions, which seems like an opportunity for Joost to rise above. Joost does already have its own iPhone app. Ooyala makes use of Adobe AIR and also Amazon’s web services, whose startup competition it won in 2007. Its existing customers include Bebo and TV Guide.

Joost has $45 million in funding from founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, Viacom, CBS and Li Ka-shing. Ooyala, which was founded by a trio of former Google employees, has raised $10 million in funding from Sierra Ventures and angels.

• Mediatrust Blog - Peter Bordes, Trip Foster, Scott Parent and Christopher Smith combine to write this agency blog about everything from performance marketing to industry news to company news. The best part of the blog is the video series, “Relevantly Speaking”, which is nicely produced and informative.

• Outspoken Media Blog - New blog for a new consortium of SEOs (Rhea Drysdale, Rae Hoffmann, Lisa Barone) that have no problem saying or writing what’s on their minds. Still new, most posts are announcements or live blogging from SMX West but hopes should be high for a range of internet marketing topics .

• SEOMFG - What a great name for this blog about SEO humor, tips and advice from Drew (mostly), George and Frank who are mythically located in a shack in Montana - but probably not. Content is search marketing centric and aims to educate the SEO community about what they’ve learned from experimentation, knowledge and experience.

• The Internet Marketing Driver - Glenn Gabe covers the gamut of internet marketing topics in this blog and makes up for infrequent posting by going deep on a lot of posts with detialed how to’s and insights into tools, SEO and media.

How do you get on the list?
It wouldn’t hurt to link to the list first. Otherwise, we find most of the new blogs when reading blogrolls of other BIGLIST inductees or SEM social news sites. Rarely do we add a blog based on a direct request. Two fundamental requirements: Your blog must cover search marketing and it must post weekly at a bare minimum. Other considerations include, blog design, usability, writing style and quality.

How do you get off the list?
No one has ever asked how to get off this list, in fact, many have gone out of their way to get ON the list. However, we do drop anywhere from 70-100 blogs off the list due to a variety of reasons ranging from infrequent blog postings, off topic postings, site not longer working or on occasion, sites that get bought and turned into splogs.

Making Changes
Our goal is to provide a useful and accurate list of actively SEO. Managing such a large list over time means we may not catch every change. Common changes include moving from a third party hosting service to a domain name or sub-domain address, writer changes and topics covered.
